If you are looking for a type of hair extension that is easy to attach and at the same time on the more affordable side, then clip-in hair extensions are a great choice.

You can just clip them in and out anytime you want, without having to break your bank.

Also, clip-in hair extensions are best for medium to thick hair and they will last between 6 months to 1 year if not used frequently.

  • Advantage: affordable, easy to use and won’t damage your natural hair.
  • Disadvantage: may fall off if you’ve purchased a low quality version because the clip will loosen, especially if used often.
  • Cost: $100 to $500

What is a tape-in hair extension and how much does it cost?

This kind of hair extension is super thin and will give your hair a more natural look without going for something permanent.

The top part of it has an adhesive tape that attaches to the roots of your hair.

Tape-in hair extensions are again suitable for medium to thick hair and last between 6 to 8 weeks.

  • Advantage: easy to attach, and because of its thin structure, it will stay flat on your hair for a more natural and concealing effect.
  • Disadvantage: since this kind has adhesive tape, it may be harder to remove and may cause tape residues. Also if not properly stored, it can tangle easily.
  • Cost: $200 to $275

What are Sew-in hair extensions and how much do they cost?

If you’re always in a hurry, you can opt for a sew-in hair extension.

This hair extension is sewn down into rows using a needle and a thread.

It is suitable for thick hair, and can 2 to 6 weeks with proper care.

  • Advantage: your natural hair will be tucked in so you will have less upkeep.
  • Disadvantage: the sewing in process may be a bit stressful for your hair because of too much tension which can cause hair fall and breakage for a while.
  • Cost: $130 to $200

What is a real hair weave extension and how much does it cost?

Like sew-in hair extension, real hair weaves are also sewn down and are best for thick hair.

The biggest benefit is, real hair weaves will provide a more natural look than sew-ins.

Its lifespan is also longer than sew-in hair extensions because they can last up to 8 weeks.

  • Advantage: stronger and more durable type of hair extension.
  • Disadvantage: can be painful upon attachment and may irritate the scalp which can cause hair breakage.
  • Cost: $100 to $600

What is a fusion hair extension and how much does it cost?

This kind of hair extension is a favorite due to its smooth and natural finish.

It is suitable for all hair types and can last up to 3 months or more if taken care of well.

The procedure to attach this hair extension is longer than the previously mentioned methods as it will require heat and keratin to attach.

A hot fusion iron is used to melt the keratin onto your hair in the process.

  • Advantage: has a concealing effect which creates a smooth and natural finish.
  • Disadvantage: if not properly applied, the heat may cause damage to the natural hair. And if not removed carefully, it can lead to hair weakening.
  • Cost: $200 to $1,000

What are micro bead hair extensions and how much do they cost?

Micro-bead hair extensions are known to be among the least damaging of extensions.

This is because a small silicone line of beads will be attached to your hair in order to hold everything in place.

No glue or heat is used upon application.

Therefore no damage is done to the hair.

This hair extension type will last for 3 to 6 months with proper care and is best suited for thin hair.

  • Advantage: is long-lasting, safe and feels light.
  • Disadvantage: requires extra maintenance and monthly adjustments. Is also a bit pricier than other extension types.
  • Cost: $200 to $1,500

Hairstylists recommend adjusting the hair extensions to the current thickness of your hair.

If you have thin or less hair, choose hair extensions that have voluminous locks.

But if you have thick hair, look for hair extensions that have a more natural finish.

Do hair extensions make you loose hair?

Hair extensions require extra care and effort. Fortunately, they won’t do a lot of damage to your hair if applied and cared for correctly.

Conclusion

When getting hair extensions, it is recommended to opt for high quality types with human hair, instead of choosing synthetic ones.

Since the better the quality, the greater the hair extensions will look on you.

In addition, high quality human hair extensions last longer than cheaper ones.

But not all hair extensions work for all hair types.

Generally hair extensions can set you back anywhere between $200-$3000, although the average price for hair extensions ranges from $200-$600.
